Food and farming tour
Do you want to know where good food comes from? Devon has many of the best small producers in the country – come and let us introduce you to some them.
There will be demonstrations of how to use the excellent local produce in both traditional and innovative ways. A master butcher will demonstrate his trade and show guests how to turn a carcass into the more familiar cuts of meat. We will go to a traditional agricultural market where we can watch the poultry auction. We will introduce guests to the producers of vegetables, dairy products and rare breed animals who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about quality food production. We will visit specialist retailers for a range of food tastings. There will be plenty of chances for hands-on activities.
Meals will be taken in cafes, pubs and restaurants which showcase the best of local produce (often from producers whom guests will already have met). You will stay in shared holiday cottages (but catered!) and all the driving is done by us. The three-star holiday cottages are set in a 150 acre estate and have a bronze award for green tourism. The holiday will be fully catered, but guests will be able to make their own tea and coffee, and the cottages have been chosen for their comfortable communal spaces which have open fires or wood stoves. As it is self-catering accommodation there is no maid service – you’ll have to make your own bed and share a bathroom!
The tour is based in West Devon, a haven of tranquillity – uncharted waters for most visitors to the West Country.
The tour includes: • Accommodation in three-star holiday cottages with a help-yourself continental breakfast • Three 3-course dinners in the cottages • Two 2-course dinners in pubs/restaurants • Lunches each day • Services of guides • All transportation within the tour • Visits to producers, specialist retailers and food demonstrations. Alcoholic drinks are not included; the cottages do not have a licenced bar nor is there one in walking distance. If you require wine, beer etc please bring it with you, although there will be opportunities to stock up as we tour around.
